The info you provided was absolutely great. Thanks. I did notice one in particular did change the date, but because I had a copy of an old report file, I called the reporting agency and brought it to their attention. The ended up removing it when it was originally supposed to come off..instead of extending it based on the "revised" date the collection agency changed it to.

So I guess it's good to keep the old reports as references.

Thanks again for all your help. :)

I settled twenty debts and I believe one or two of them changed the date of last of activity. I don’t know if they are allowed to change the date of last activity once a debt has been charged off but some do.

Thank you. I most certainly have issues with them being able to do the hard inquiries...soft inquiries I fully understand. They really need to pass a law about that.

I'm just curious about the payment. Once payment has been made to these creditors...would the timeframe be extended on the credit report? Especially with the item that has fallen off the credit file...what happens there?

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

The 2006 will not come off till 2012 and the 2001 should not be showing on your credit file. Once you settle the debts the hard inquiries will stop. I disagree and the law should be changed that creditors can pass our personal information to collection agencies and the agency can turn around and do hard inquires. I don't have a problem with collection agencies entering our file to get information but they should only be allowed to do a soft inquiry.

The last payment was in 2006, and the oldest account was 2001. So this is really an attempt to stop the hard inquiries and also have proof of payment,(once the payment has been made).

As long as you owe the creditors the debts will be passed along to collection agencies and they will do the inquiries. I noticed some collection agencies do hard inquiries and others don’t. The hard inquires stay on Tran’s union for six years and equifax three years. When was the last time you made payments on these accounts?

Thanks so much for the reply. The debt(s) to be dealt with have all passed the SOL. But since they've changed hands with different Collection Agencies...we're looking at options for getting rid of the debt, but at a lower amount...preferably 20cents on the dollar.

No written acknowledgment has been made to anyone about the debt...but since some are over 8 years with one having 2006 as the last payment activity.

We want to speak with someone about this option in order to get rid of the inquiries on the credit file that seem to keep changing from agency to agency...some don't even indicate what they're inquiring about...only that they've hit the report.

Will send RichardC a quick note. Thanks again!

Happy May 24! (Victoria Day for the provinces who celebrate it). I have a question about Mr. Silverthorn. I've seen brief posts about his services and wanted to know if anyone has used his services to deal with Collection agencies. Since he used to be a lawyer for the "other side"...I'm curious to know how he's able to help people having issues with Collection Agencies and if his fees are reasonable.

Thank you.
