many thanks for your help any other ideas happy to hear but I like the one about ignoring them as if the company does sue me I think my paper work will show I am right

couldn't he just send a cease and desist letter by registered mail to stop the calls at least?

No...it will not.
Ignore them till you are served if you are not prepared to pay what they claim.
Do not call do not write.

Send them a letter telling them to stop calling me at work and at home that I am disputing the amount in question with the company you were hired to collect on behalf and tell them to take me to court to have this settled or is this asking for trouble I live in Ontario and the collection company who called me and then yesterday morning I also got a letter from is in Montreal Quebec But the money if you pay them by mail has to be sent to markham Ont other collection company who I also got a letter from but no calls is from Vancouver BC
