If I'm taking a trip to Thailand and it's the cost me $6000 for the whole trip should I switch to a travel rewards card?

I love to travel and I like to collect travel rewards points, however, I'm going to be paying for the trip over 12 months. I'm going to be charging the $6000 to my credit card. I at least want to get something back when I charge that kind of money to a credit card.

I've never seen a points calculator as you're mentioning... however, if you're paying 19.5% interest, I'm pretty certain that you're paying way more interest than you are collecting points.. You're not going to have a positive net return on your travel card

The best idea is to pay down your highest interest cards first, and if you can switch your balance over to a low interest credit card..

Interesting.. I have a travel rewards credit card... but i'm paying 19.5% interest on the balance right at the moment.. I've saved up a few thousand points but it's not near enough to travel anywhere.. and i'm stuck with the high interest rate..

is there a way to see if the amount of points you get are worth the interest you're paying.. on that particular card we're paying about $65 interest each month.. over a 12 month period we're paying over $700 in interest.. I guess i just answered my own question!!

Employer are eyeing on the rewards points. it has been a perk for anyone who do have a travel credit card. earning some points to redeem rewards is what interest people to apply for a travel card. unfortunately, the rewards programs are slowly taken away which mean that there will be a time where only limited rewards can be exchange by the points being collected.

Travel rewards are one of the perks that make business travel bearable. Now, for some, they are being taken away

The life of a corporate traveller can be tough. Frequent separation from family and friends, second-, third- or fourth-rate food, generic hotel rooms that prompt the “Where am I?” response not only when you wake up, but when you're walking down a hall to a meeting room. But for decades, there's been one significant perk: Sure you're away 200 days a year, but you can make it all up to the family by flying them to Nepal on points.

hi..

i do have travel credits cards and i have been collecting points and redeemed them with tickets. every time i go to a new place i want to experience, i don't spend cash on my flight ticket but instead use my travel points to get them.

however, i took me sometime to reach those points but still its worth it for me collecting the points as i have saved much cash. if you are travelling and spending much for it then take a travel rewards card.

a helpful advice for you is just pay off completely your credit card bills every month to avoid interest charges which is high. you must be careful of rewards card because the rewards may deceive you to spend much and in the long run get troubled paying off the statements.

I guess I should ask my question here as well.

Anybody else use their credit cards to travel? Do you have a travel rewards card? Did you make payments? Any advice?

hi..

thanks for the information. so, its better to get credit cards that allows AirMiles points to be earned as it have a wide variety of rewards compared to Aeroplan which is strictly for airline tickets only.

however, it don't discount the advantages of Aeroplan as this reward program is best for card holders who are frequent flyers. they make the most out of the points giving them convenience and comfort when they are travelling.

thanks again for your explanation.
