Thanks, Elaine. The concern is that $59/yr seems high for a $1K credit limit. Anyone know of a no fee option? Thanks.

Credit card for self-employed new permanent resident

Postby trvlnmn » Wed Apr 24, 2013 10:13:57 AM

Hi,
What options are there for getting a credit card for someone who is a new Canadian permanent resident (i.e. no credit history) and is self-employed (i.e. no T4). I am being told that 3 years of self-employment income documentation is typically required, even for secured cards with 100% collateral deposited in the back. What other options can you think of to get a credit card (not including co-signors or other guarantors)?

Thank you.
