Thank you both for your input. I will contact them to let them know they have an incorrect address/information on who they are seeking.

Thank you again

Meh. Screw em. They have the wrong person and are just fishing. I have a common last name and I can;t tell you how many calls I get about delinquent debts that don't belong to me.

I would tell them under no uncertain terms that they have the wrong person. If they persist, send a registered letter. If they still persist, take further action accordingly that your provincial regulations allow.

I would watch your credit reports to see if perhaps your identity has been stolen or mixed up with someone else's. Happens all the time.

Notice for something that's not mine?

Postby Willywonka » Thu Mar 14, 2013 02:04:36 PM

Hello everyone!

Today I received a letter from MetCredit stating that they want to collect money from me that I was "delinquent" on. A few things:

The letter has my address, and my last name but they got the first name very wrong. As well, this account they are referencing I have never heard of. I receive my credit report quarterly and have never noticed anything "extra" opened up under my name. How serious is this issue? Should I contact them and let them know of their error or should I just ignore this since it doesn't actually pertain to me? (As a side, I've lived at my current address for over 50 years, so it's not just a coincidence of a former resident sharing my same last name)

Thank you in advance for any input on how to deal with this matter.
