RE: Travel Rewards Credit Cards - Discussion Forum

I am planning a trip to South America. Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia, then Brazil. I have a lot of related questions that I need to ask about credit cards, since they're the source of cash.

If I have a good credit card such as MasterCard or Visa will I need to take American Express Travelers cheques with me, or cash? Are MasterCard and Visa accepted everywhere I go in South America?

Anybody else traveled to South America? I would be interested to have your input.

The next questions are: which are the best credit cards for interest rates, travel insurances, health insurances, travel rewards points?

Will I be able to call the credit card company in North America if I'm in South America? If this is my only source of cash when I'm traveling, I want to make sure that it's as secure as possible. I want to know that if I lose my credit card or it is stolen that I can be assured it will be replaced as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I'm not even sure which other questions I should ask her where to start. I've wanted to visit these South American countries for a really long time. I've seen these countries on the travel network, and the people look fantastic and the food looks like it could be very delicious. Not to mention the fact that the landscape and scenery look amazing. I would hate to hamper this wonderful experience by having problems with my source of making payments
I love to travel... which is the best credit card to use?

Travel Rewards Credit Cards - Earn Points

Postby montyloree » Fri Apr 30, 2010 06:22:44 AM

here's the interesting point about this: all Canadians have provided groceries and living items every month. They got cash to do so, so why not gather travel rewards points for these purchases? If you spend the money anyways why not get some benefit for it?

All that it requires is discipline to pay off a credit card in full every month, and that seems to be a mindset. The mindset of not carrying a balance.

If individuals could be of the mindset to pay off their balance every month then there would be a lot more travel rewards points collected.

RE: Don't Fly Direct to Earn Miles Faster

those are nice pics. I like to visit there someday.

I'm starting to learn about travel rewards paying interest on the travel rewards cards and why it's very expensive. For example we owe $6700 on our TD travel rewards card but would pay 19.75% interest on this card each month. So I don't think it's profitable to collect points at the expense of paying 20% interest. I don't know why we thought that in the first place. I guess it just sounded glamorous to collect travel rewards points because you see all the commercials. But when you have to start paying interest on the balance doesn't seem as good

Don't Fly Direct to Earn Miles Faster

Postby bebiesean » Wed Mar 31, 2010 01:15:34 AM

Airline rewards counts both the miles earned and the length traveled in the formula for calculating how much points are accrued. So you can earn miles faster if you choose a flight with multiple stops. These types of flights are also more affordable, so that's a bonus for you if you're footing the bill.

Would you rather choose a reward program that's specific to travel and will turn all your points into airline miles or would you rather have a reward program with a more generic reward so you can choose redeem it as something else. (i.e. Gift Card for your spouse or an electronic reward).

A dream trip to the ocean using Travel Rewards - sunsets and scenery

Postby montyloree » Tue Apr 06, 2010 04:47:54 AM

Look at this gorgeous picture of a beautiful sunset on the ocean, with the huge rock in the background. I could sit and look at this for hours. This is not something you see in Saskatchewan, or at least of the Regina area.

So when I travel to see this, I would probably have to fly because the oceans in their way are 2000 kms to the west or about 5500 kms to the east. It's a long way to drive. so the only practical way to go there is to fly. I would have to use a credit card to purchase the air lines tickets.

I've seen the scenery like this in Newfoundland. Newfoundland's a really nice place, and the scenery there is gorgeous. We went there a few years back using MBNA travel rewards. so that was kind of neat that a family of four was able to travel from Regina Saskatchewan to Newfoundland using reward points

RE: How To Take That Dream Vacation using Travel Rewards For A Portion of A Cost

one of the questions I have regarding this trip to the Philippines is if I had a credit card such as WestJet or AeroPlan or Air Miles , would I be able to take this trip?

travel rewards credit cards canada

I understand that if you collect WestJet points for example, you can only use them to go places where WestJet travels. I'm not sure that WestJet goes to the Philippines or China or South America etc.

I'm sure that AeroPlan and Air Miles would allow you to the Philippines that it would probably require a lot of points..

It's literally on top of a mountain. The road's more than decent, you won't have any trouble travelling up and the view's great going up the mountain as well. Most people stop midway to the top because you can see the view of the city from top. Although more and more people are discovering the place, which is sad. I'm afraid they'll just start polluting the place. A lot of tourist visit the place as well, caucasians, koreans, etc

How To Take That Dream Vacation For A Portion of A Cost

Postby bebiesean » Sun Mar 28, 2010 09:35:54 PM

Again, I would just like to reiterate that Rewards Credit Cards are just really suitable for those who pay their credit card bills on time. Weigh your options. If you carry balances, then a low-interest credit card will suit your needs. But if you're prompt with your payments, then take advantage of the different rewards programs many credit card companies offer, especially since credit card companies seem to compete with each other by offering the most rewards to get you to sign up.

So how can you take that dream vacation? It's so easy to earn enough miles to travel to any destination with the airline of your choice. Just by making everyday purchases, you can earn points to pile up.

A good example of a rewards credit card that gives you the option to travel when you redeem your rewards is the Miles Platinum MasterCard® with No Hassle Rewards™. Though it offers no introductory APR, it has no annual fee and the rewards program is great. Every dollar spent on purchases will give you 1 mile. And there is an offer to double your miles for the first 6 months upon signing up, every dollar purchase will then give you 2 miles for the first 6 months, and there is a bonus of 5000 miles for the first purchase. if you use the card for your everyday purchase like groceries and gas, you'll earn enough miles to travel in no time.
