Well, the guy's legal arguments are rubbish and he's due for a surprise if they ever go to Court. A moot point because it's unlikely to ever get that far, irrespective of a change in the debt's principal.

But it's a video which gives a prime example of CBV's "professionalism."

There's the following headline in today's Toronto Sun: "Hunt on for GTA's 20,000 illegals - Sweep includes 50 war and 1400 hardened criminals."

Could it be that the CBV collector on the phone was one of them? That may be why they locate their offices next to subway stations. For undocumented workers or somali pirates laying low, it's easy to lose immigration enforcers when ready made dark tunnels are near the workplace. And also since it's possibly the only job around where you don't have to use your real name or show a licence.

I put an article out on collecton agencies a while back, it will help you understand how they work and why: http://www.totaldebtfreedom.ca/articles/article_13.htm

Monty also has a really cool collection agency help kit you can find here:

http://www.canadian-money-advisor.ca/wp/collection-agencies-part-1/?forum=cmathreadview

His kit is less then $20 and will be packed full of useful info.

Credit Bureau of Canada Collections

Postby nicolemwilcox » Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:15:52 AM

Hello,

I have an outstanding CC debt and it is in Collections with CBCC. I am self employed and the winter months are bad for income and haven't been able to maintain regular payments to the account to get rid of the debt.(I'm like a type of contracted worker)

They have been calling me excessively demanding money or they will persue legal action, (I would call them semi agressive/rude, while I am trying to explain my case to them). I recently sent them and equivalent of one month of my room and board to them in an attempt to appease them for a bit while I try and find additional income. They've proposed a "blind settlement" and have told me to borrow money from friends and family. I know that they are in no position to lend me money for this and frankly do not wish to ask for it from them.

Is there anything I can do to get them to ease up while I try to find supplemental income. The last thing I need is to get sued by them. I don't have any 'wages to garnish' should that happen.

Thanks for the help.
