Ontario Student Assistant Program is a program conducted by the government of Ontario in Canada. This is a financial aid program that assist students with demonstrated financial need in obtaining the necessary funds so that the student can avail for postsecondary education.

You can settlement your OSAP debt after you graduate and stop attending school. The NSLSC will send you a consolidation agreement in which amount outstanding, minimum monthly payment and interest etc will be mentioned.

Ontario Student Assistance Program helps Ontario students pay for their education. Public colleges and universities also have assistance programs, scholarships, grants and bursaries.

I don't know about Ontario Student Loan but if you are talking about loan in which credit profile no matters then i have suggestion. No tery loan is a kind of loan in which your credit profile doesn't matter. Only you need to have cosigner having good credit profile.
Today, education has been very darer. Therefore there is requirement of lots of money to get higher study for which private student loan can be helpful.

The last time I checked, Ontario Student Loans (Provincial portion) doesn't get reported to the credit bureau. But an inquiry will show from the CA collecting on it. The same is true of the Fed portion.

They are offering to settle at principal. You can do better if you want to prove financial hardship, and wait several weeks (or months) for OGS to get back to you. FYI - there are no settlements on Fed portions.

If you agree to settle it is pretty easy to get them to not report it to your credit report.

If you agree to pay it all in one lump sum or multiple payments that are within 30 days they will not charge you interest so you'll have to pay the amount from 2001.

Ontario student loans have no SoL so this will never go away.

Your best course of action is to pay it in one lump sum with the agreement that they do not report this to Equifax.

If you defaulted in 2000 and it comes off in six years then this item should not be showing in your credit file.

Ontario Student Loan

Postby Micheline123 » Mon Feb 08, 2010 08:55:18 AM

1998 Ontario student loan
Apr 2000 defaulted

July 2001 Ministry of traning and colleges asking to pay 11206 dollars or my file will go to a CA
Jan 2010 a CA is calling with 16456 or settle with $11206 (exact dollar amount from 2001)

what are my options:
settle and 3 years to clear from my credit
ignore it
if they take me to court and I don't win, it needs 6 years to clear from my credit report... and good luck with re-nogotiating the Mortgage

what should I do??
can I call the Ministry of traning and colleges and settle with them, maybe it will not show on my credit report?
