Six years ago I defaulted on a $4,000 VISA debt we had been handling through our provincial OPD program after a death in the family and health challenges. I was off work for about two years and for a period had no income other than my husband's OAP and CPP. In the interim, the debt had gone to iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency . They ignored us except for about once a year, but lately they have been trying some dirty tricks to get us to pay them, including lying about who they are (one caller said they were the TD Bank updating our info) and calling us several times a day.
The last time I talked to them I told them I will not be paying them, a. because I know the debt was written off by the bank many years ago ( which means that even if I did want to pay back the bank, I couldn't because they no longer have a record of it), and b. because I told iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency I don't owe THEM the money. Even if I did feel an obligation to pay them, I don't trust them as far as I can throw them that the money would be applied to our debt and that we would then have a cleaned-up credit history. The posts on this site have done nothing to change that opinion!
We have done without credit since 1995, and have even bought cars (albeit they would be called beaters!). It's actually been a relief not to use credit, but it would be nice to have a clean credit history. We applied to get money for a car last year, but in spite of our not using credit for so long, we still come up as having bad credit. I feel it's due to iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency 's activity, although I do take responsibility for not paying my original debt.
Any ideas how I can either get iQor, Inc formerly CBCL - Canadian Bonded Credit Limited - Now Iqor Collection Agency off our backs or clean up our credit?
