I've found that a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) is a great way to invest for long term savings.

people need to take the time to plan for retirement...
obviously you can't read into the future... but you can take the time to do some "what if" analysis...

What would you like to do for your retirement?
What about health issues?
Do you want to spend alot of money?
Do you plan on travelling?
Do you plan on gardening alot?
Do you plan on doing alot of hobbies?

What are the costs of these? This is a simple way to plan for retirement..

If you don't plan for retirement, you're going to have a lot of time on your hands with little or no money saved up

well maybe so...

but are individuals going to be properly self funded by the age of 53?

People have to have money to live in Canada... otherwise the tax payer has to fund them.

Give way for the next generations. There is a huge list of unemployment every year and this can be reduced by retirement to
age above 53

As the population in Canada ages, more and more people are heading for retirement in the next 5-10 years.

Aside from the obvious money question, what else are you doing to plan for your retirement?
Trips & Vacations
Hobbies
Visiting family

What do you plan to do with all of your new found time?
