I had a settlement agreement with hfc which was fufilled in 2003 then hsbc bought hfc and suddenly I owed again, and of course my daughter made that darn payment in 2006 thinking she was helping me, I think this is all interest and since I am 63 and ready to retire they can just go where it's hot. We have also moved 3 times since this was initially paid and do ya think I can find the darn settlement. LOL! it's the only thing I can't find.

Just an update, still getting calls both at a number I am no longer at and a place I used to work, the number I am no longer at has call blocked the number which was 780-382-6135. I am just going to ignore these jerks, the place I used to work keeps telling them I no longer work there and they just ignore that as well. No response to the registered letter I sent them either

I sent them (Contact) a registered letter today asking that they contact me by mail only as I am hearing impaired (true) gave them a care of address and asked that they provide proof that the account was assigned to them a break down of the account and so on and so forth. I also stated that I would correspond with them until this was resolved.

Also I would like to have a settlement letter or something before I start sending payments because I do not have the ability to pay the 10k they claim I owe, and I would like to have this cleared so it doesn't affect my credit rating forever.

I thought of drafting a letter asking them if they purchased this account and if so to send me a breakdown of what is interest and what is the actual amount owed and offering them a settlement amount. I just find it strange that HSBC who purchased this from Household never reported it to the bureau in three years and I heard from them once explained my situation that was in 2005 and they never contacted me after that, and then of course my daughter who thought she was doing me a favor sends them a payment without my consent, then Contact comes on the scene 2009 and all of a sudden it's in the Equifax report, I have worked very hard at trying to rebuild my credit and at 62 would like to move on without this hanging over my head. I am getting a tax return back this year around 1k and thought of offering that to them as full and final settlement. I am also asking they contact me only through letter as I have a severe hearing loss. My fico score is 653 and although I make enough to cover my husband's needs and keep us afloat I do not have any savings etc. His income is a disability pension which is less than 600 per month and his medical expenses are easily that and more. My problem is that I don't know who to contact as I have never received a letter from Contact or HSBC for that matter, although I notice on the Equifax that HSBC made an inquiry in September of this year and there is a 800 number so should I contact that? or try to deal with Contact who I don't know where to get in touch with. There is an address in Mississauga but I don't know if that is the right place as I found the address on the internet. Thank you all for the advice and help.

You could just send them post-dated cheques for $100 a month. They will either cash them or refuse them.

If they refuse them then you would at least be able to show in court you attempted to pay.

No, they can't sue you without making an honest effort to notify you of the proceedings.

The payment was made to your account and there is nothing you can do now. I would find out if contact resources bought your debt because they are known for buying creditors debt. If that is the case, then you have to deal with them directly.
