just wait for the papers to be in your hands before you panic. but still, it would not hurt a bit to get prepared on any possible action they could do. ask now and learn fast.

"I've paid off direct to people before (FIDO cell when i was younger) and bypassed the collection agency."

Collection agencies still get their commission in this case.

Not sure why RichardC is advising you to hit them at the start of the month: hit them now as they will be more likely to settle for less if you promise payment by end of month.

I know my judgment in my province of Nova Scotia; the interest is 5% per year or 1.33 per diem.

The interest continues to accrue at all times.

CRS may have bought the debt, or it may be assigned on contingency.

You wont know unless you call the original creditor and ask them.

Either way if CRS spent legal fees to sue, so the original creditor will typically defer back to the agency.

Your best time to talk to CRS will be at the begining of the month, near the end of the month they are completely unreasonable with demands becasue they (the bill collectors) are trying to make as much commission as possible before month end.

So they have a judgment now? So whats the big deal? Its just another peice of paper that says you owe the money.

You dont have the money to pay, and it sounds like you are self employed. So unless you own a house (and they know about it) or they know where you bank ( to garn your bank account) there really isnt much they can do but be rude and push your buttons.

My suggestion is settle the debt when you can accumulate a lump sum of money, with enough persistance it can be done - but for right now, focus on you and your business.

Sorry I didnt PM you but I think the answer is relevent to others who may be searching for a hand on the subject in the future.

Went to court with the claim number they gave me, yes indeed its from my future shop account from 2005. I had to special order my file because the court only holds as far back as 2006.
The amount must seem right, the original remaining amount was for 2200..so plus interest it could be 5100ish? The question though is can I just pay the creditor? (citifinancial)? and avoid CRS..they seem like a bunch of clowns...i told her that i have to pay off my business expenses for fiscal year end and then I can pay this off. I was merely stupid and didn't pay it all...she was really rude though and kinda pissed me off...it's like i'll pay it just give me a month.
I literally cannot pay anything if i don't have any money yet.
I've paid off direct to people before (FIDO cell when i was younger) and bypassed the collection agency.
Like, what happens here? do they buy the debt from the creditor and then try and get their money back with a little profit on top? how does this work? can I negotiate a deal here? say give her $3,000 and tell her to piss off?
I would love a PM response from a professional please.
