I called Equifax nd they said this is Paid account and Aktiv Kapital is not showing anywhere nor any inquiries done on this from them

Now, thats good but just the fact that they have the account and the date seems off by 1 year is disturbing to me

Equifax seemed very impatient while answering any queries ( considering these things can affect us so much ), I asked them if its paid can you stop Aktiv from requesting a hard copy for something I have paid which can affect my credit rating, they said if they have the account then we can't stop them

In addition, here's another interesting bit
I also have a HBC ( Zellers Card ) account which doesn't show on my credit report anymore ( it did back in 2006 ) so while communicating with a compliance officer at Aktiv Kapital by email, I asked hem if this is not mistakenly a HBC account which HSBC and them seems to think thats its a RadioShack Card; they said after 2-3 emails that after looking closely it looks like a Zellers Card

But I re-confirmed with HSBC and they say its a RadioShack Card, so Aktiv kapital is fishing

So far, I am leaning towards settling it ( for something I know I paid ) as this process of calling so many people has been really hard, I had to take a sick day just so I could be at home to call these people up

Any other wise words and advice, or take the plunge and pay the whatever 500-600 dollars of my back

P.S I havent even called Transunion, they seem to be clueless on everything

HSBC simply says sold to Aktiv Kapital, have no statement to show me
I will ask Equifax and Transunion ( which is terribly bad and slow in udpating thngs )

But I might just pays omehting I don't owe to get the record straight

Sad but true, I dont see any other option

Reg,

Both entries on your CR read $0 owed, so I wouldn't be too concerned about any effect to your credit rating, unless they posted a collection item you didn't mention. I'm not sure why HSBC sent anything to collections.

I think it may have to do with the following: First Citi Cards financed your Radio Shack card, then that became a HSBC Retail Card with the Source, recently VFC handles all Source/Circuit City retail cards. This credit card portfolio has been sold so many times its no surprise something like this might happen.

BUT notice the account number has changed? I can't speak for the retail versions but a bank credit card i.e. Canada Trust MC to Citi MC always retained the same card numbers during transfer - it didn't in your case and without seeing statement from back then I can't say if they are the same item or not.

These retail cards are garbage; they are at 28.8%+ and get sold off often over time. That's why I only keep one personal major credit card, and one for my business. Those introductory 12 month periods of no payment/interest can just be a path to deep financial trouble for people that could never afford the purchase to begin with.

Anyways I am off track now. Either way, as Monty points out in his DIY credit repair book, all items on your credit report need to be accurate and verifiable.

If it's not accurate, dispute the item and get it removed. If you owe it, pay it. Sounds like you have some calls to make on this one to get to the bottom of it. Good luck

I used to have a Retail Card from Radio Shack back in 2001
Around 2005 , Radio Shack became The Source By Circuit City

I know 100% that I owed them nothing, infact I was an assistant manager there 3 years ago and I know I wouldn't have applied for a job or got one for that matter if I owed them money

Now, this is the state of my credit report

So I call HSBC and then say this is a TheSource by Circuit City Card and now will Collections

I try to reach The Original RadioShack (1st in the list ), they say they don't have it anymore and if they don't have it, then I don't owe anything as they keep records of people who owe them money
In addition, they got no idea where the account is

But HSBC says I owe them, they says its a The Source Card for sure

Looking at my own credit report from Equifax and Transunion, what should I make if it?

I have no old paperwork
Should I pay, which I will be doing for the sake of cleaning up the Credit Report ( but not sure how to read the comments )

All in ONTARIO
