Does anyone know anyting about the 407-ETR highway here in Ontario.
My husband was working as a courier delivery driver in the City of Toronto for a number of years. When they opened up the ETR highway he used it to travel around the City to get from point A to point B. Anyway, to make a long story short he racked up a huge amount of tolls and fees owing to this highway which we never could have paid back short of plucking loonies off the money tree out back. Originally, this highway was owned by the Province of Ontario but in their good judgement the Province chose to sell off the highway to foreign investors. So, he is into this company for a whole lot of money but the last time anything was paid to them was probably before the new millenium. Therefore, I would assume the debt is statute barred, however, the Province included in the sale of this highway a sweet little collection clause that would allow the highway to have an individual's Licence Plate renewal denied until the debt is paid off. Even sweeter, the Ministry of Transportation for the Province would be the collector of such debts.
So, my question is, how long do you suppose the Province can legally deny plate renewal for an unpaid debt to the 407 highway?
Thanks
