IF you don't live in Canada, and don't have assets, there's not much they can do. They could probably get a judgement against you in the province that the contract resided in and then find a lawyer to go after you... However, that's pretty unlikely, and the lawyers fees would chew up the $13,000 pretty quickly, assuming you had it.
You're right, your CANADIAN credit rating will be messed up, however, if you're not going to be in Canada, it doesn't really matter.
You will have to start a new credit rating in the country that you're living in though.
