I believe once your credit file is updated the reporting will stop. It cost creditor’s money to report every time.

thanks, I was thinking of this 2 weeks ago when I forwarded my discharge letters.

I also submitted copies to MC asking them to stop reporting a balance owed as the debt is paid.

It does seem long for them not to have your file updated. Unless they are double checking your letters with the creditor or collection agency and they are the ones delaying the process. If these accounts are still showing a balance they will double check just in case someone is trying to erase a debt that still isn’t settled or paid.

If you faxed them in, they are pretty fast at updating. I would wait thirty days at the most. I don't know if your score will change in thirty days, you might need ninety days to see a change, I could be wrong.

I received my discharge letters and faxed them in today. How long should I wait to pull my file and score again?

I tried looking for it and they don't like to disclose their local offices. Here is the Equifax telephone number and they should be able to help you 1-877-323-2598.

Once you send the new updated letter to the credit bureau your credit file will get update and it will show a zero balance. If you have a local office, take the letter in person.
