The first credit card on record was the Diner's Club Card and was issued in 1950. This was the year that the "age of plastic money" started.
Actually the first credit card was made of card board.
I am interested in studying the history of credit cards and personal credit products as these things have affected our life such a great deal.
Over the last 55 years, the world has changed dramatically. Because of the credit card, consumer debt in the U.S. is at $2.2 trillion. Credit cards have helped usher in the "big box" era. The Home Depot era.
The credit industry as a whole has developed and matured into a mechanical , computerized industry.
Bankruptcies and consumer debt default is at record rates in Canada and the U.S.
People are addicted to using their credit cards. This situation has developed over the last 55 years since the first Diner Card was issued.
I hope to bring you some of the interesting research that I've done so far. It will be interesting to see how the credit mentality was then back in 1950 compared to 2005.
