The above website is an amazing site for information. It is American based, but the basics of credit are the same.

Financial Agency Consumer of Canada will be a good place to start. Here is their link:

http://www.fcac-acfc.gc.ca/eng/consumers/CreditLoanDebt/CreditReportsScores/CreditReportsScores-eng.asp

The Request to get free credit report form from Equifax can be found on this link:

https://www.econsumer.equifax.ca/ca/main?forward=/view/common/template.jsp&body=/view/contact_us/contact_us_pre.jsp

For TransUnion, here is the link:
http://www.transunion.ca/ca/personal/creditreport/consumerdisclosure_en.page

Look for the link that says - request for a free copy of your consumer disclosure.

Pls note that while annual credit report can obtained for free, you will have to pay when you order credit (or fico) scores.

I think Monty has a book called eBook on his site for sale. I would click on the tab purchase and log in.

Thanks.Does anyone know where I can go to find out info about all of this?A book or website with simple, clear and true information regarding debt and credit and what can and can't be done about it.The more I surf the web the more confused I become about what's true and not true?

Checking your credit report does not impact your credit scores at all. In fact, if you find an error on your credit report, and you request Credit bureau to rectify the error, most likely, your credit score will increase.

If you are unaware, you may request free credit reports from the three Credit Bureaus (i.e. TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) each year. When you do have your credit report, verify information such as date of last activity, condition (whether open or close), new credit account opened or any derogatory remarks. Act appropriately and promptly if you do find error, because such error may be impacting your credit worthiness. Regards, TagaKawit

Does checking your own credit report lower your score.I have been very interested in all this financial stuff since my last post but it seems the more I try to find out the more confused I get.
