I have had many telephone calls and e-mails from various people who have been harassed and threatened by Paul Kupferstein's Law Office and his monions, and I thank you all very much.

Again, as Mr. Kupferstein is responsible for his staff's conduct, and as his staff are violating not only the Rules of Professional Conduct, but also the Criminal Code of Canada, and he is responsible for any damages you may have suffered.

Mr. Kupferstein's staff is not allowed to call your employer, your friends, your neighbours, your relatives, your parents or grandparents in order to collect this debt.

If Mr. Kupferstein's staff does this, you can sue them.

My firm would be most agreeable to being retained by anyone who want to sue Paul Kupferstein for harassment and damages.

I bill my time at $150.00 per hour, and I request a retainer up front of $500 plus 5% GST, and I look after all steps of the action.

The limit in Small Claims Court in Ontario is $10 000, but on 1 January 2010, that limit rises to $25 000.

And Mr. Kupferstein is not going to be thrilled about any matter such as this get in front of a judge.

you can reach me at 289 285 0181, 866 306 8111, or at gowlingsinc@mountaincable.net.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Ya know what would be delicious irony?

If one of the more questionable collection agencies were to be sicced on him to collect that $750.

wow...
Thanks for posting this..

It indeed means that if you complain, you'll get results.
$750 is not a big deal for this lawyer, however, I'm sure if he gets enough marks on his record he could be disbarred..

good to know that it can be public information that a lawyer has crossed the line.. Especially Paul Kupferstein!!

Nicely Done!

"I reported Kupferstein and friends to the Law Society, and apparently they have a nice little file growing on them. I suggest you do the same. It's one thing to attempt to collect a debt, but this lot use the Kupferstein letterhead in order to get around the Collection Agency Act of Ontario, and that cheeses me off to no end."

Hello,

Your request for current and past discipline regarding Paul Kupferstein was forwarded to the Discipline Department for response.

Paul Kupferstein does have a past discipline history. The particulars are as follows:

On May 9, 2006, Mr. Kupferstein was found guilty of professional misconduct for:

o sending a collection letter out under his name but under letterhead where the address and telephone number were not that of his office, but of his client, a collection company thereby breaching Rule 5.01 (5) of the Rules of Professional Conduct.

The Hearing Panel ordered that Mr. Kupferstein:

o receive an admonition
o pay the Law Society’s costs in the amount of $750.00 within thirty (30) days from the date of this Order.

Mr. Kupferstein is currently not the subject of any disciplinary proceedings.

Well, it looks like they are using that legal letterhead ILLEGALLY!

Thought I would post that incase anyone else receives letters from "The law offices of Paul Kupferstein".

Cheers,
Alan

I'll check into it first but (legality), as someone who cut the cord and owe these people nothing.....I'll make my "credits" up for sale at discount for those who need it to pay old loans. Its kind of upsetting that 1/2 my payout is stuck in store credits when I won't ever use these or other services...
If your like me you bounced from pdl service to another trying to make ends meet. Now I get to invest monies that were always mine to begin with, tax-free-savings-account here I come..

There was very few times I paid by cash. Was pretty much always paid by debit. My online banking lets me go back 18 mths. I was able to see a payment every 2 weeks in that period. I've contacted the lawyers office in charge of the suit, and will be submitting my claim this week!

I can't thank you enough!

quoted from the 6 paragraph down ""Class Members are required to file a claim for their share of the settlement fund. ""

so make sure you do this, through the (registered) mail, by fax and contact the law office...cover your butt. oh and tell me if the link worked for you..it did, cool..

you don't need to have your account# or the loan papers, as the claim form states required info is:

first and last name, sin number, date of birth and phone/address .

If you have print outs of your bank statements keep them to yourself just to double check their payout amount...if you payed by cash your out of luck so start getting bank proof of payment (checks cashed by cs)

Thank you very much! I will be submitting my claim(Once I contact the Cash Store and receive my customer # + Loan # for all 70ish loans). Is it normal that the claim would be submitted to the Cash Store. Would it be that hard for them to just lose my claim(submitted via mail)?
