i'm not quite sure where I find that information of last date of activity? all my credit report states is that cbv posted it on my report in April 2008....when I talked to them they said they bought the debt from another collection agency at that time...tried contacting me at the last address they had from the collection agency and then added it to my report when they were unsuccessful reaching me....this was quite shocking to me...I would have never realized it was on my report if I didn't have a sears card...sears cut my limit down quite significantly as they get credit updates every three to six months on their customers....when I talked to cbv they told me their records show the last bill sent by the creditor was back in August 2004.so i'm not sure of how they can keep a bill going that long and then decide it's time to wreck my credit almost five years later...???The original bill should have been closed ending June 30th 2004 as I moved by then.....

Angella,

Is there a date of last activity, if so it will come off six years from that date?

So, then, even with nothing done, it will drop off in August 2008.

My personal recommendation... keep this copy of the credit file too. It may come in handy if the debt should be re-aged.

CBV purchased the debt from another collection agency apparently so they say they are a third party collection and this is why they can post to my report now...I'm so confused about this matter....In the mean time I will be digging through my old files to see if I kept all my copies....hopefully i'll find the important one then I will be able to contact them again with my findings and proof....
the date that they say the debt is from or the bill issued by original creditor was august 19, 2004......
i moved June 30th....that just doesn't make sense....

What is the date of last activity listed on the bureau file. That is what they will use to calculate the removal date... and if it is wrong you will need to take action.

Otherwise it will come off in the appropriate month in 2010.

so the fact that they put it on my credit report dated April 2008...won't make it stay on my report for six years from that date? The original date of 2004 is where the six years has to begin? If this is so I can just wait a year and it'll be wiped off right? I sure hope that's the case...:)
Thanx for getting back to me so soon....:) Is there anything else I might be able to do to get this off my report sooner? I'm definitely not willing to pay over $900 for this. UPDATE: I was speaking with cbv again and they say in alberta this will affect my credit from the date 2008 ? that would make 2014 the date that it'll clear from my report...Is this true or are they just lying to me? Where can I find Alberta laws stating the rules regarding this?

They can keep it on your bureau for 6 years from the date of last activity. That should be in 2010.

Basically, you have three options:

Ask for evidence of the bill. Just because a collection agency tells you that you owe money does not necessarily make it so. When/if they cannot provide evidence of the bill, dispute the existence of the bill with the credit bureau, the original creditor, and the collection agency.

Or, you can simply pay the bill. If you do that, you should get, in writing, that they will remove it from the bureau completely in exchange for payment of the debt. I , personally, wouldn't give them 900 for it.

Finally, you can simply leave it be as it will be gone anyway next year... filing a statement on your bureau for any creditors who care to look...plus with the fact that FICO is releasing their new scoring model in which this debt will factor far less into the score than currently is the case.

CBV Collection SVCS.

Postby angelhutch » Thu Jan 08, 2009 11:25:49 PM

So I ordered a copy of my credit report from trans union to find I had a delinquent account with cbv factored...telco???? I had absolutely no idea of what this was or why it was on my account report....
I talked to a rep at transunion...they gave me the number to call....so I found out its an old telus bill sold to them....I moved and thought I had my most current bill....this was in 2004....
cbv bought the debt this year in april 2008...so now this affects my credit...what do I do? the debt was originally under $200 before I left and moved to my new location....So cbv tells me that my debt owing is at $900+....they purchased it from another credit collections agency....Is it legal for these collection companies to keep this debt in motion after all these years and now i'll have bad credit for gosh knows how long because of this? Please Help!!!
