I called the phone number for CBCL listed on my credit report (416 753 4900) and it just rang fast busy all day. Dors anyone know if this is the right number? I called 411 and they connected me to a message stating that the number was out of service

I agree Monty, from personal experience one will be enough for me. I don't want t go down the road I went down again. If I get in trouble with one which I can't see, at least I will only have to settle one debt not 15.

Cheers

If you can be patient, and prudent, having many credit cards won't hurt your credit rating... getting them all at once will hurt your credit rating.

I have many credit cards, and I keep them on a very tight leash. My TransUnion credit score is 805.. My Equifax credit score is 750.

If you shop around for credit all at once, that sets off alarm bells, as was mentioned.

I agree having tonnes of credit will hurt you. They consider you a credit seeker. The plan for me is get one credit card and that’s it. There is no need to have over 10 credit cards like I did in the past. If you use your one card right you can have over $10,000 worth of credit in one year. The key is to max out your credit card on and off and make sure you keep the payments up to date. Every so many months pay your credit card off in full. There are little tricks to do to get your limit raised without you requesting it.

Just having a tonne of credit, or having mostly newer accounts, will drag your score down. Read the explanations provided in the Equifax report.

I agree Richard if you max out your credit limits then the R1's would be less effective. I always made sure when I made a big purchase like a home, I would make sure all my credit cards were paid off and made sure they were showing zero in my credit file before approaching a lender. If you are planning to make a big purchase in the next month or so make sure your bills are paid off now, because it takes 30 days before your credit file shows that.

Jimmy Said --> "Another thing I noticed was that a company named CDN Bonded Credits pulled a soft inquiry of my file January 7, 2009, but they are not listed anywhere else on my file."

Not all debts owed are reported to your credit report, the Feds for example don't list federal student loans but the hit from the collection agency will show. Bell is another one that hasn't reported in the past. They are collecting something there.

Credit score plays a huge factor when evaluating credit worthyness. Also don't assume for a minute that if you have all R1's your score is good.

I have seen plenty of credit reports where the score is less then 450 but every item is listed as R1. Your score goes south when you approach your credit limit... even if you are up to date.

In Atlantic Canada you were not entitled to your credit score till the new law came out in December/2008. If you knew a banker or someone at car dealership that was the only way you would find out your credit score in my province. Like I said if I knew in my credit file I had all R1’s I knew how to negotiate with creditors when it came to buying my homes and other purchases. If I thought the interest was high I would not sign on the dotted line. If credit scores meant a lot why are people out there paying 18.9% on gold credit cards that have excellent credit and credit scores?
