If it's just on there as a collection item (likely), it can be removed entirely if you get them to agree to it.

Make sure to do so in writing.

If you don't own the debt I wouldn’t pay it. I would fight it and if you go through the proper channels this debt will get erased once they find out it's not your debt. It’s the principal of the whole matter.

For $165 it's probably better to pay it... then show the letters of payment (receipts) to your future creditors.

They wonder... why is it that this guy can't pay.

Either that or fight it in writing with Telus, consumer protection, and the collection agency.

Already did that. Telus said they don't have the account and to contact the collection ageny...

Thats why I sent the disputes into TU and Equifax. Maybe I worded it wrong then. I thought though that they had to contact the original creditor and not the collection agency.

It says factored so it's a bought debt which would explain why Telus doesn't have it.

Thinking that maybe I should get a money order for the $165 and put CBV on the receipt portion and my name on the order itself and cash it.

At least I have a receipt if I am face to face applying for something. I probably have a better chance of it dropping off if they dump the debt, or sitting on it till 2011. Maybe I'll try dispute letters again and state I require they contact the original creditor.

I would call TELUS and explain your situation. If you’re not happy with customer service find out if they have a customer relations department. I would not give up till you get the right person to help you. If you don' get to the bottom of this, this item will not come off your credit file till 2011 whatever month its showing on your credit file. I would tell TELUS that you’re entitled to a copy of this account or a statement. They might have you mixed up with a person with the same name and ask them what the full name they have, birthdate and even sin number. If you pay this item now, this item will reamin on your credit file for another six years from the date you paid it.

Racking my brains out with a CBV Factored Collection!!

Postby calgarian » Thu Jan 01, 2009 02:10:52 PM

Nightmare city. I HAD great credit until a CBV Factored collection showed up that appears to be from Telus in 2005 at an address I didn't live at...grrr. Know who did it, but doesn't help me here.

Other than this collection of $165, I have never had a late payment on anything. Loans, credit cards. Nothing and it has reduced my FICO by alot!

So after reading the posts here I sent disputes in to TransUnion and Equifax and both came back as the information is correct, and now CBV has the balance at $250 and a note that says STILL NOT PAID.

So now what? Whats worse, paying it or leaving it for my scrore?

I am annoyed because I have never gotten a phone call or letter and my address on my file is correct...

I have 655 FICO score because of $165 collection...
