Although 720 used to be a good enough credit score to get the best interest rates on a mortgage, now some lenders are requiring scores in the high 700s to get the best rate. So you just need to pay all of your bills on time with at least the minimum payment to maintain the current status...

If your credit score is over 670 and the card is solely in your name, why not apply? But no more than one or two applications within 90 days or it will reduce your score (which is already not that high) by a tad for the following 3 months.

Capital One credit limit increase

Postby boxrluvr » Mon Nov 03, 2008 08:39:22 PM

I applied for a capital one secured card last November, my credit score was in the low 600's. They approved me for a $300 limit with $100 deposit. In January my husband with a score in the mid 500's was approved for a $500 limit with on $75 deposit. In June they raised his limit to $1500. (my sister has also received an increased limit to $2500 with a score in the low 500's) I have had no offers of a raise and recently purchased a brand new car and qualified for 0% financing and my score was about 670...I phoned Capital one to inquire about increasing my credit limit and they said there is nothing available for me at this time...I have paid on time every month and all my statements say 0 minimum payable as I make payments on the card a few times a month just to free up available credit. I'm going to vegas in a month and can't rent a car with only $300 available credit on my card...
Should I apply for another credit card somewhere else???
