I was promised this letter would be sent by fax and mail within 2 hours of my first request...

Four weeks and about 12 phone calls later, the jerks finally mailed me a clearance letter. Even the staff were telling me it was bizarre. They're like "You're right. This is totally paid. There's no holdbacks, no conditions. I don't know why the manager isn't handling this."

There was nothing handled incorrectly at my end. The address they had was current, and I did ask them to fax the letter in my very first request (and all the followups). They simply would not accommodate me, the one guy who unlike 90% of their accounts, actually paid everything on time without any hassles.

Maybe they have an outdated mailing address for you?

Find a fax machine and have them fax it to you.

HELP: Obtaining proof of settlement

Postby blue222 » Thu Oct 16, 2008 03:59:46 PM

Long story short:

I defaulted on a CC back in 2003 after losing my job. The CC company sold the debt to a collections agency, and I've been paying the debt back via automatic bank withdrawals for a few years.

About three months ago there was about $500 debt remaining. The collections agent offered to settle and close for $250. I paid it, and was told I'd get a letter confirming the account was resolved. The letter didn't come, so I called to request one. I've been promised it twice, and the agency has screwed me over both times.

I want to correct this item on my credit report, because it shows the debt is still outstanding to the tune of $3000 since 2003.

What are my options? If it is relevant, I live in BC, and the agency is in Ontario.
