Hi guys,(FYI) I just went to the Canada Agency Gov't site and it says that if a SIN # is in active for a period of 5 years or more,as reported by the CRA , it is flagged dormant. HA, I guess that answers that. Thanks for your help and comments.

you mean your SIN is dormant? That's extremely weird and I've never heard that happened to anyone before. I agreed with V you should keep bugging them until the issue has been completely fixed.

No idea what that means but this is something you should definately be chasing them for. I'd be on the phone once a week bugging them to find out what is going on with your SIN and how it can be resolved.

Make a few notes as to when you called and who you spoke with. Unresolved these sort of issues have a tenancy to come back to haunt you.

HELP!! My SIN number is "dormid"

Postby meplus3 » Tue Feb 26, 2008 08:19:52 PM

Hi, last year in around April I went to Revenue Canada to apply for my childrens SIN numbers , so I could get the $500 resp grant from the government($500 for each child). When I filled out the paper with my name and sin #. The clerk stopped and said "oh your number is dormid" and asked me to fill out a form (I can't remember what it asked) I filled it out. She didn't want to apply for the kids because she said until mine is fixed their's can't be processed. She told me someone from head office would contact me and ask me questions??? Any ideas what this is all about?? I haven't heard from anybody and can't get my kid's RESP until it's resolved; but I'm too afraid to ask. HELP.
