My husband appears to have the same problem with CBV. They allege that he also owes Telus Alberta, in the $2000 range. The funny thing about this so called debt is that we haven't lived in Alberta for over 6 years. We obviously don't have any old bills or statements laying around so we really don't know for sure if, or what he owes. I also made the mistake of calling back this number because they said that they had a very important message for me (they didn't say a name and I assumed it was for me). They asked if I knew a Fred Flinstone (not his real name obviously) and I said yes, then they said he needed to call them back. I asked why and they said they were not allowed to tell me because they didn't have his permission to share his personal affairs with me. LOL. Now they call my phone (it's totally and wholly in my name) up to 7 times a day. I have call display and our phone calls are also logged online. One of these days when there is an actual person calling and not an autodialer I'm thinking of actually answering and having fun with whomever the lucky soul is.
I just wanted to share our story since CBV seems to be so popular here.

Tell them the last time you dealt with Telus was 6 years back and the debt was paid. Tell them that they need to send you proof that you owe this bill... statements, and payment history. Tell them without this evidence they will need to stop contacting you.

I'm in Alberta - not sure if the SOL is different? They (CBV) said that Telus "sold" them my debt in November 07.

What I was mainly trying to do is find out WHY (if Telus thought I owed them this money) I haven't heard a single thing from them - I mean really, it's been 6 years!!

Any advice on what I should do? CBV called last week (not identifying themselves) and said they had returned mail for my husband and wanted our new address. Stupid me, I gave it to them. They called yesterday and that is when I talked to them and found out it was regarding Telus, and today I talked to Telus - but haven't heard back from CBV at all.

At six years, yes you're past SOL. (which province?) and after 6 years they cannot place your file in the credit bureau.

Time Limits??

Postby money4me » Tue Feb 19, 2008 09:08:48 PM

Hi there,
I was just contacted by CBV regarding a Telus bill from 2002 that I "supposedly" didn't pay (which I KNOW I did). I contacted Telus, who wouldn't speak to me, they said I can only deal with CBV - whatever. They said they (Telus) had tried contacting me for years (even though we still had the same phone number up until 2 years ago) - they said the mail was returned and they "don't make" phone calls???? Anyways, supposedly this is the 2nd collection agency they have sent the file to, but wouldn't tell me who the first company was.

Basically - I haven't heard a single PEEP from anyone, Telus or otherwise since I changed to Sprint in 2002 (and paid my Telus bill!) - I am just wondering - after almost 6 years can they come after me for this?? (It would take me spending lots of money to get my bank to pull up all my old statements, cheques, etc to prove I paid this, since why would I keep that crap after 5-6 years??) Even though they THINK I owe this money now - can they legitimately come after me after all this time?? Any advice on what I should do? I have already told them that it is paid (all they said was "we show that you haven't") claimed that they had already put a note on my file, which I checked and they haven't - to which they said "OH, we meant to say that we COULD put a note on your file"... I am at a loss as to what I should do.

Thanks for your help!
