good point 3adhb1... I should have mentioned that I earn points / miles with my MBNA credit card. Know varied card options are offered by banks and I was planning to use the points / miles this year, learning to my chagrin that my points had expired

am i missing the point here? airline forum? is it a miles thing like airmiles? i have an mbna card and don't know anything about points

After racking up over 50,000 points with MBNA credit card, but then keeping them as an "emergency" backup credit card I wanted to cash in points for a trip.

Called in and told was down to 4,500 points. They slashed the points each month without so much as a "by the way". No option to cash them in and I am not at all happy. Perhaps they included it in the very fine print, but find it reprehensible,

Anyone else having the same headache?

hey manchesterU.. Calling and threatening to transfer the funds out will usually get the rate down. I had a boss who had me do this like twice a month, his debt was ridiculous. But a better strategy, pay off credit cards at all cost and never carry a balance then the rate don't matter.

All-in-All-out.. You can always call to complain. You might mention that you'll transfer your balance. They're in business to make money, so it might work. It's worked for me before.

A couple years back I got a little to much on my MBNA card then i wanted on there so I decided to not use it anymore and pay it off. After about three months they increased my rate to 27% and doubled my minimum payment amount because I wasnt using the card. I took out a loan from Mommy and paid it off and wrote them a letter to never send me anymore junk from their crappy company again.

MBNA Platimum Card has appalling customer service. Have been with them for over 10 years but have now given up as service it getting worse and worse.

They have repeatedly block the card for no good reason. it seems they dont like me topping up my mobile phone balance each month. Some months it goes through and others seem to fail their security rules though it is the same transaction each month.

Yes, keep the TD Visa active. Change it to the Rebate Rewards, or the Drivers Rewards Visa, whichever one you think suits your needs the best. They're both no-fee.

Of all the Visa issuers in the country it's really hard to say which Visa has the best rewards. Visa has such a stranglehold on the Canadian market that they don't really need to entice potential users with stuff like that, so they don't really offer the rewards that a MC or an Amex may do.

I have a MBNA Smart Cash MasterCard that I use for all of my credit card purchases and a TD Visa that I haven't used in the past 3 years or more. The TD Visa is the first Credit Card that I ever had but offers no rewards and I don't bank with TD anymore.

I've heard that I should keep this card active as it will look better for my credit score since it is my oldest credit card but I never use it. I'd like to replace it with a Visa that will earn rewards if I use it.

So, is it better to keep it active for my credit score or are there some good Visa rewards cards that you can recommend?
