Hey Michelle,
Check out my post here:
collection agency advice for Canadians

Don't get upset, you can certainly take the offense with collection agencies. They have laws to abide by.

Note that by asking a collection agent for proof that they're licensed in your province to collect, you'll buy yourself a few days to collect your thoughts while you're waiting for them to send that proof.

Don't deal with collection agencies because they say they are collection agencies. Collection agents need to give you proof that both they and their collection agency are properly licensed in your province.

We know of very few agents/agencies that actually ever send proof to those they are collecting.

If a collection agent insists on talking to you and calling you without giving your proof that they're licensed, immediately complain to Consumer Protection in writing. This will start to put you in control of the situation.

FINALLY:There are NO laws in Canada that say you have to deal with a collection agency. It has to be by contract only.

I hope you can help me with something. I have a very overdue payments due I'm on welfare. I have tried to make payments but, I have 3 children and have to put food on te table and pay other bills. I know I should pay this. I think about it everyday. Well, today I talked to a lady to complain about one of her employees. Well, I told her my story about what happeneds with this I was complaining about. She told me first, take the cigarette out of your mouth before you talk to me. I said excuse me. She also thought I was giving her an attitude which I wasn't. Then instead of helping me, she started talking to about my account and how I'm going to pay it. I told her I called to complain about this man. She kept going on and on about how I was going to pay this bill. Well, I got upset and started crying because of how rude she was to me. She said to me " You are 32 years old and your crying." I told her that she was making me upset. Sorry for all this information but I need some help on this. Do you have any advise and if you do can you help me. Are people in collection agencties suppose to be like this.
